National Air and Space Museum's The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), very close to the COM.Geo 2012 conference venue, is the companion facility to the Museum on the National Mall. The building provides enough space for the Smithsonian to display the thousands of aviation and space artifacts that cannot be exhibited on the National Mall. The two sites together showcase the largest collection of aviation and space artifacts in the world.

The space shuttle Discovery is the centerpiece at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Discovery flied over the D.C. area and landed at Dulles airport on April 17 on the back of a 747 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
